President's Message

It dawned on me at the last Board of Directors’ meeting when I asked for individuals to form the Elections Nomination Committee, that my term as President is almost over. The year has flown by so quickly that I want to recap this year.

With the departure of the previous Office Manager, the Office needed restructuring. In March, Shay Carr was hired as the new Office Manager. She came as a breath of fresh air and with a passion for the MSSA as a veteran 12 year member. In my conversations with Officers & members, they have expressed how well Shay has done in a short time. She has been instrumental in making the Office more efficient & correcting years of errors and problems... continued

I hope everyone has escaped the natural disasters of 2011 with no injuries. I have never experienced an earthquake, hurricane, and tornado within a month time frame, nor do I ever want to again.

Speaking of disasters... nets in the Chesapeake Bay (yes, an estuary), the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) debacle, oyster shell dredging in the upper bay, and the flounder/black sea bass regs that continue to astound me, recreational anglers will soon have nothing to fish for. I guess we can start sitting inside and playing fishing video games. Maybe we should start the virtual sportfishing association, the VSA...? continued
