We would like to invite you to the largest Spring Rockfish Tournament on the East Coast. This will be the MSSA’s 25th Annual Spring Tournament and will be held on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2008.

This year’s tournament will again be geared toward the coastal stocks of rockfish. These brutes will be exiting the Bay after spawning in our river systems. As they exit the bay, our captains should have a great opportunity to catch one of these magnificent beauties. All cash and merchandise prizes are for rockfish, plus there will be seven separate skill levels for rockfish. This year, we have added a $500 Winner Take All skill level.

Once again, included in this year’s event is a special division for charterboats and professional fishermen. This division will have its own separate cash prizes, as these captains will be competing against themselves. All monies collected from charterboat captains and professional fishermen will be deposited into a special account for that division only. Prize money will be broken down into five separate prizes for the largest rockfish brought in. This division does not have any effect on the outcome of the main tournament.

Conservation will still play a major role in our tournament. We ask that all of our tournament captains participate in the Catch & Release segment for rockfish in our tournament. We ask that you release sub-legal or rockfish over your creel as carefully as possible. The MSSA is very proud of our tournament captains’ participation in this segment of our tournament.

This event is the principle source of revenue for the MSSA. The proceeds from our tournament enable the MSSA to conduct many activities and enhance recreational fishing opportunities throughout the year. The MSSA has been recognized as the “Official Voice of the Recreational Angler” in Maryland.

It is important to note that by participating in the “Tournament Within a Tournament” (skill levels) you enable the MSSA to be the “Watchdog” for the recreational fishing community in Annapolis.

We would like to acknowledge that our extensive prize list is made possible through the support and financial participation of our major sponsors: Boater’s World and Jones Junction, in addition to our other donors and sponsors.

The advertisements that you see throughout the brochure identify the businesses that have made a commitment to the MSSA. Stop in and let them know you appreciate their support for the MSSA!
